Lindsay from Courtious antiques was entrusted to restore an 1844 Baltic Pine dresser including relining the draws and also to restore a six-seater dining room table that was in the one family for six generations.
I was not disappointed in any way, shape or form, from start to finish with updates as Lyndsay progressed through the job a true professional from start to finish. I would highly recommend Lyndsey to anyone for any restorations required on antiques and other cherished items.
My grandfather was a collector of valuable Japanese art and artifacts. In 1952 I inerited from him a lovely old wooden screen with exqusite mother-of-peart marquestry. Unfortunately over the decades and with many travels it fell into a sad state of disrepair. Recently I decided to have it restored and sought several estimates. The only one that impressed me in terms of quality assurance, straightforward timetable for restoration and reasonable cost was that of Lindsay Courtois. I delivered the screen to him at the beginning of August 2017 and in the weeks that followed he sent me photos of his progress, which included the most delicate replacement of damaged and extremely fragile pieces of marquetry. He finished the work in November 2017 in accordance with his original estimate of three months, and the screen is really beautiful, it looks as good as new. I am delighted with it, not least because it a family heirloom and of great sentimental value. My thanks to Lindsay for his professionalism, skill and expertise.
Having a family heirloom that was originally my Grandmothers wedding gift, I was very conscious of finding a restorer that would do justice to the originality of the dinning suite. It had been restored some 20 years earlier and it had been done to a lovely standard, however, all the chairs were showing signs of age in both the material covering the seat and also the joints were in need of attention. There were also sections of timber work that needed replacing.
After a long search and many phone calls, “Courtois Antiques” were given the task of recovering and rebuilding the chairs back to an original and sturdy chair. The quoted price was very reasonable and the turnaround time was also acceptable.
With the seat material being replaced with leather, there was need to repack the seat base, there was also need to resize the frames for the seat bases, all these tasks were handled expertly by Lindsay.
We could not be any happier with the finished work. The leather work is excellent and suits the chairs perfectly. The refit of the chairs ( gluing and reshaping new legs) has resulted in a chair that feels as fresh as the day it was made way back in 1920.
The result was exact to our wishes.
I would gladly recommend Lindsay and Courtois Antiques to any person wishing to restore or refurbish any well-loved furniture. It was a pleasant and trouble free experience.

As a family we have had Courtois Antiques repair and restore a number of our valuable antique pieces over the years. On each occasion the resulting repair or restoration was both sympathetic in nature and invariably invisible to the naked eye. We’d highly recommend the expertise, attention to detail and friendly service that Lindsay and his team are able to bring to dealing with your antiques.
Lindsay Courtois of Courtois Antiques has carried out restoration work on valuable items of furniture for me since 2002.
This has included repairs to the marquetry of a Louis Seize 1790 buffet a deux corps, lining the glass doored upper cabinet with moire fabric and completely French polishing. The refinishing of the top of a large Fritz Hansen dining table to withstand exposure to sun in a verandah location. The complete repainting of a 19th century Swiss armoire in authentic colour and material. And most recently the restoration and French polishing of a Sri Lankan occasional marquetry topped ebony occasional table.
The work was appropriate and has withstood the rigours of time and use in each case.
Lindsay has always been generous and professional with advice, timely with execution and reasonable with charges for the work carried out.
I have no hesitation in recommending his services to anyone who cares about their treasures.
We are absolutely delighted by the new life that Lindsay Courtois brought to an antique armoire and several period chairs. He was able to masterfully create a new interior set of shelves that look and feel as if they have always been there, give life and health back to the wood itself which was dry and pale after some centuries of travel. As for the chairs, he repaired them and restored the wood beautifully while re-upholstering them superbly. We have already returned to ask him to restore another antique chair.

We are really pleased with the work you did on our furniture. The sideboard and all the tables are family heirlooms that we have had a for a long time. They are very precious to us and the work you have done to restore them all is wonderful. They have been carefully repaired – so the drawers of the sideboard open easily, all locks work and the small chips of wood that had come our of the little round tables have been replaced. The surfaces of all the tables are wonderful to feel and the French polishing has made all the pieces glow. Wonderful work.
All the best,
Professor of History Sydney
